Stay band, talk straight

Conference: In Place of War (IPOW)

The premiere of theater performance for children “ MBRETI GJUMASH”
On Tuesday, 6th of July at Dodona Theater, Multimedia Center started with it’s project Forum Theater in Kosova. First represented series of scenes of forum theater were entitled “Stay band, talk straight”. Financed by European Union under the management of European Commission Liaison Office to Kosovo, this project started with it’s first representation in Prishtina, to continue on later months throughout all centers of Kosova. Issues that are going to be dealt during the forum theater have to do with: domestic violence, conflicts between generations, corruption, nepotism, malfunction of governmental institutions, environment, youth migration, cultural heritage etc. After the first presentation at Dodon Theater, two other presentations were organized at the spaces of the NGO “Instituti Psikologjik-Psikoanalitik” (on the date 6th and 8th of July). The settings on the stage of Forum Theater were followed by a debate, moderated by mr. Shkelzen Maliqi (publicist, political analyst and philosopher). The plays are written from Arian Krasniqi, directed by Agon Myftari and the acting team includes Adrian Morina, Arta Selimi, Besnik Krapi, Valmira Hoti, Bekim Guri, Arben Zharku dhe Ylber Bardhi. Higher intensity of presentations of Forum Theater will start from September, a period when academic year starts.

25th – 27th of June 2010, National theatre of Kosovo   The In Place of War network with members from Australia, Belfast, DR Congo, Germany, Kosovo, Palestine, Serbia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, UK and others comes to Prishtina to discuss ideas around theatre in warzones and the relationship between theatre, nation and nationalism in a conflict/post-conflict situation.   Many artists are involved in making theatre that stages notions of national, regional and local identity. Many post-war settings explicitly deal with what it means to be a nation or a new nation and theatre has had an integral role in these developments. In this seminar we are seeking to explore these issues through debate and practise.    In different panels examples from warzone and projects, that deal with issues of nationalism or identity, will be presented. The role of theatre during and after war and how theatre can be "in place of war" will be discussed.   In the frame of this conference Qendra Multimedia invites the actor Niels Bormann (Schaubühne Berlin) to present the theater project Third Generation directed by Yael Ronen. In this »work in progress« German, Israeli and Palestinian actors come together to confront themselves with different narrations of history, with memories and personal experiences. Concepts like memory, guilt, what makes a victimizer and what makes a victim, and what those concepts mean to us now, both in their public and private use, are scrutinized. This will not be about competing national founding myths, but an attempt to comprehend the foundations upon which our personal identity is based within a particular national context.   The conference is open for everybody interested.   The In Place of War: Theatre, Performance and War Research and Practice Network is a collaborative initiative for academic and practice-based research into the role, function and impact of theatre and performance in places of armed conflict. (http://www.inplaceofwar.net/)    The participation of Niels Bormann is made possible with the support of Robert Bosch Foundation and Goethe Institute Belgrade.
